The International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP) was introduced in 2008 to modernize English language assessment with on-demand scheduling, 24-hour grading, and accurate test data. iTEP provides a convenient and cost-effective testing option delivered in a highly secure environment.
iTEP offers a variety of assessment tools for university and secondary school admissions and ESL placement and progress. More than 800 colleges, universities, middle/high schools, and boarding schools in the USA and Canada accept iTEP results for admissions. Applicants can take iTEP at more than 500 test centers in 61 countries.

iTEP for Middle & High School Admissions
The iTEP SLATE (Secondary Level Assessment Test of English) was specifically designed to evaluate the English proficiency of secondary-level students. It accomplishes this through the use of adaptive content that is both challenging and age-appropriate. iTEP SLATE Plus (our admissions test) evaluates grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking with score ranges from 0-6. All iTEP tests are aligned to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) and deliver detailed score reports within 24 hours.

iTEP Scoring in detail
Scoring
To achieve the best results, iTEP utilizes a mixture of its own grading software, as well as a group of native English-speaking ESL professional graders who go through calibration every 60 days. Graders have no contact with anyone involved in iTEP administrations. This allows them to be truly impartial in their evaluations. iTEP test results are valid for two years from the test date.
Grading
The test will determine an overall proficiency level from 0 (Beginner) to 6 (Mastery), as well as individual proficiency levels from 0 to 6 of each of the skills and sub-skills tested. The overall scores combine the results of the skill sections, and for greater accuracy, they are expressed to one decimal point (from 0.0 to 6.0). The test is graded as follows:
-The grammar, listening, and reading sections are scored automatically by iTEP software.
-Each test section is weighed equally, and there is no penalty in the multiple-choice sections for guessing or incorrect answers.
-The writing and speaking sections are evaluated by native English-speaking, ESL-trained professionals, according to a standardized scoring rubric.
-The official score report presents an individual’s scoring information, displaying an examinee’s strengths and weaknesses in each of the skills and sub-skills tests.
